Home Consultation
Families with children who present with challenging behaviors and barriers to learning often benefit from ongoing support and education. Everyday activities such as daily routines, community trips and family activities are impacted significantly when a child has intefering behaviors and challenges to their learning. By providing ongoing consultation and education, families can begin to better understand their child's behaviors and learn to implement effective supports and behavioral strategies at home. Home consultation often includes:
Assessment
- Interview to identify and prioritize areas of concern.
- Review of salient records as needed.
- Collaboration with outside professionals involved with the child.
Education
- Discussion with family explaining the possible causes of the problem behaviors
Planning
- Exploration of intervention options that will target the problem behavior and will take into account the feasibility of implementation for each individual home.
Intervention
- Positive behavior support plans to be implemented in the home with ongoing support
